Fire Station tour

Yesterday I took some of Avery's friends and one of Justin's friends and met up with MY friends and their kids at the fire station for a tour. When we went with Devin it was a big hit and Avery wanted to go so bad. So, I decided when it was my turn to do the play date swap on Wednesday I'd take them over. I got it arranged the day before and they had a great time!

Pretty as a princess

Avery got her ears pierced today! She's talked about it off and on for awhile now, so when she brought it up last night I finally agreed to take her today. They had school off and Kirk had work (and had given his approval too), so I bundled everyone up and we braved the rain and went to the mall. Our first attempt was not successful. After sitting there and having the pen marks put on her ears she couldn't take it anymore and was too scared. We decided just to walk around for a bit and play in the play area. Then we found a place that has 2 people working and they will pierce them at the same time. She liked that idea, but the other worker wouldn't be back until after lunch. So we came home, had lunch and Avery went back and forth about going back. After she felt brave enough and Kirk was home, just she and I headed over and had success. She's so proud of herself and we are too. That's a big deal for such a little princess. You look beautiful, Avery!
The picture of her in her pink coat is our first attempt. Doesn't she look so pathetic? The other one is the successful trip.

Our sweet Valentine

Happy 6th birthday, Avery Valentine Sumida! Valentine's Day doesn't get much more special in our house having Avery's birthday on the actual day. We have a rule in our house that the kids only get to have a friends party every other year and they don't start that until they are in school and it is an even year. Those are some rules, huh? That way, we figure, they hit the big birthday's when they are teenagers. Yep....thinking ahead. Anyway, so this was Avery's first birthday party with her friends and she couldn't have been more excited. We had it at a popular place here called Pump It Up! It's basically an industrial building filled with large blow-up slides and jumpy houses. She invited her entire kindergarten class and a few additional friends from church or neighbors. They all had a great time and got a ton of exercise!
Here is Avery telling us how old she now is.
This is Avery's favorite thing to do there. She just loves to climb the wall. She's definitely our more adventurous child.
Justin made it to the top!

Her second favorite is the slide. And for sure it's Devin's favorite!

The following picture is the big chair the children get to sit in with their crown on while they eat their cake and open presents. They get to feel like a true princess.
Opening presents in the big chair...
Here are most of the children, but a couple of them were in the bathroom (I found out after I already took the picture) and 2 had left already.
Thank you to all that came to help celebrate with Avery and for making her day special! We love you, our funny little Valentine!

Talents

Tonight our ward Primary put on a talent show. When they announced it a few weeks back Justin and Avery knew right away what they wanted to do. It was never a question of IF they wanted to participate. Amazing. I don't think I was that way as a child. Justin decided to dust off his old piano lessons book and played Jingle Bells (Merry Christmas in February!) and Avery wanted to show off her ability to pop the front wheel of her little bikes tire off the ground. Too cute, huh? They did great! All the kids were so cute getting up there and performing their different talents. I love that the church gives us all so many opportunities to enhance our abilities and build our confidence at such a young age. We had a nice time and they couldn't stop talking about it all the way home and what they want to do next year!

Save the Polar Bears!

Justin and Avery's school has gone "green". So, they've been learning a lot about global warming. Avery recently has decided to sleep with her lights off, which she's never done. She only asks that the bathroom light be dimmed way down for just a little bit of light. When I asked her what this was all about she informed me she wants to save the Polar Bears! Is that the cutest? Our little activist is going to do her part. :-)
