Yesterday Justin's Scout troop, along with the Scouts from
Murrieta, did a 4 mile hike down a river bed in honor of the Mormon Battalion. They had to march with a wooden rifle to be able to feel what it was like for the Battalion, along with a wooden box to be like their ammunition. There were about 10 different stops along the way where someone would talk to them about what they went through back then. Justin really had a good time and learned a lot. I think he was most impressed that at one point the Battalion walked 100 miles with no water or food in the middle of summer. Can you imagine going through that? I'm so impressed that he learned so much about this important history of our church and country.
Isn't he just the cutest little Battalion member?
At one point they had to climb up a cement bank. Kirk says this angle makes it look steeper than it really was. It looks pretty impressive! Oh. Did I mention Kirk went on this hike too? He's a scout leader, so he had a group to take as well.
I'm grateful to all those that gave of their time to make this happen for the boys. It was a wonderful experience for them and something that Justin will remember for a very long time.

So impressive! I'm so glad that Justin got to participate in that. It sure gives those boys a tiny taste of what it was like to be a pioneer.
